Also here, as in many other cases, you begin your visit from the
Piazza Grande, the main town square. Facing the square is the
Palazzo Comunale, where you can climb its tower!
The view below is truly spectacular, one of the most beautiful in the world. In addition to overlooking the
Chiana Valley and Val d’Orcia, when the sky is clear you can also see the far off mountain chains such as the Sibillini, Cimone, Gran Sasso, Mount Subasio and far off the tower of Siena.

You especially have to take a way for the streets of
Montepulciano, the best way to discover the city by admiring the incredible
view of the surrounding countryside, covered in vineyards of the
vino Nobile!
Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Temple of San Biagio
If you are an art enthusiast and especially that of religious art, the
Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is one of the aims of this trip. If you have some time, don’t miss the
Temple of San Biagio, just outside of the city walls.
Bravìo delle Botti
If Siena has the
palio,
Montepulciano has the
bravìo, naturally with wine barrels. It is held in August and consists of a competition in which the pushers must make enormous wine barrels role up a hill! A way to have fun and experience the pop culture of the place.
Theatre and Bruscello Poliziano
Theatre in Montepulciano boasts a longstanding tradition and the
Poliziano Theatre is very famous.
Also not to be missed is
Bruscello, a particular form of open air spectacle which links ancient country traditions with the world of opera. It is held in the churchyard of the Cathedral, with amateur actors.
